Sentenced to Death for the murder of his wife during a drunken quarrel in Dukinfield, his convictionwas commuted a week later.
He came home from drinking on June 21st and demanded to know where his wife was; his 18 year old son, Harold left the house due to his father’s abuse, and when he returned in the morning his father was covered in blood – he had cut his wife’s throat and then attemped to cut his own.
