John Williams 1912

When Hilda Williams was found with her throat slashed in a Lane, her estranged husband was soon found in a drunken state, and confessed to her murder. He was 38, and a former Welsh Fusilier, employed as a painter in Birkenhead.
When asked before his execution if there was anything he wanted to say, he replied ” I only want to say how fully I confess the crime for which I am convicted. I promise I will go to my death 1 like a soldier and man”

Hanged at Knutsford 19th March 1912 by John Ellis and Albert Lumb, this was the last execution to take place in Knutsford, and Cheshire
