Richard Davies, 19, was convicted along with his younger brother George, (17) of the murder of their father. On the night of 25th January they ambushed their father, also Richard (50)on a lonely stretch of road, on his way home from his shop. They had initially planned to shoot their father, but in the end he was battered to death with an axe.
The father was brutal to his family, often beating his wife and children.
Both George and Richard were sentenced to death, but George was later reprieved and his sentence commuted.
Richard was hanged on 8th April 1890 at Knutsford by Berry
