Hancocks was a one armed Sherriff’s officer of Birkenhead, who stabbed his 15 year old daughter in the head. He threatened to also murder his wife, and then ran out of the house and threw himself in the River Mersey. He was found guilty with a reccomendation of mercy. Hancocks had previously played football for Southampton.
There were some stories that he was a bigamist, and had left two wives, whom he wrote to before his execution.
He was hanged by Billington, assisted by Thomas Pierrepoint 9th August 1905 at Knutsford
